CHANUKAH – CHRISTMAS - RAMADAN FESTIVAL
Every year during the winter holiday
season, Haifa hosts the Holiday of Holidays
Festival (est. 1993), which honors Chanukah,
Christmas and Ramadan and celebrates the
good neighborly relations in daily life
enjoyed by The City's diverse population.
The event attracts 200,000 people annually.
Of these, approximately 25% are Arabs and
Jews from throughout Haifa; the other
approximately 75% are visitors to The City
from throughout Israel and abroad, who learn
from Haifa's example that a multicultural
way of life without dissonance is possible
and desirable. The venue is the Wadi Nisnas
neighborhood, home to approximately 350
Christian, Muslim and Armenian families.
Beit Hagefen Arab-Jewish Cultural, Community
& Youth Center and the many art galleries in
the heart of Wadi Nisnas participate. In
keeping with this Mediterranean city's open,
outdoor way of life, the core event is a
street fair offering local cuisine, visual
and performing arts presentations, and
exhibitions of antiques and folkloristic
arts and crafts. Plans for 2007 include a
gala Opening Ceremony; home hospitality to
be offered by neighborhood residents to
small groups of visitors; and an
international religious conference to
include the participation of intellectuals
and spiritual leaders. The Festival is
provided free of charge to the public so
that large families of small means can
attend and, in particular, enjoy visual and
performing art to which they otherwise
wouldn't have access.
