PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WORKSHOP
In 2006, in partnership with the Adler
Institute and funded by the HAIFA
FOUNDATION, the Maccabi Daycare Center for
the Elderly initiated a series of ten
90-minute group discussions examining
relationships in seniors' daily lives. Among
the sensitive topics broached by the pilot
group's 15 members were their feelings of
personal isolation; how to cope with a
reality that the individual neither wants
nor deserves; the difficulty of asking for
or accepting
help from adult children; and much more.
The current proposal calls for a revised
version of the project to be provided to a
second cohort. Goals are to provide group
members with the insights and skills to
safeguard, develop and strengthen existing
relationships between themselves and their
friends at the Daycare Center, their
children, and their sons- and
daughters-in-law.
THE RIGHTS OF THE ELDERLY
In 2006, in the framework of the Daycare
Center program's daily discussion circle,
and with funding by the HAIFA FOUNDATION, a
series of ten 90-minute lectures on the
legal rights of the elderly was presented to
40 seniors by jurist Dr. Israel Doron, an
expert in the field of Elder Law in Israel.
Adult children of Daycare Center members
were so impressed that they have asked the
Center to provide them with a similar
program. Topics to be addressed: elderly
persons' legal and human right to protection
from emotional or other neglect or abuse;
the legal obligations of a concerned or
care-taking adult child; and an individual's
right to die with dignity.
